Slip and fall or trip and fall accidents also called “falls on the same level,” are the second most costly type of injury-causing accident on construction sites, according to the Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index. They accounted for $7.9 billion in total accident-related costs in 2010, the most recent year for statistics. Alarmingly, slip and fall injuries are by far the fastest growing cause of injuries in the past five years.
Slips occur most often where there is too little friction or traction between the construction worker’s footwear and the walking surface. Common causes of slips are:
