Sometimes a client will call me and say, "David, you know, my friend injured his knee and he settled his case for a certain amount of money. I hurt the same knee—am I going to get that same amount of money that he got?"

And my answer is, uh, it depends on a lot of different variables. Just because he injured the same knee as you doesn't mean that the accident happened in a similar way. Liability has to be determined first, and that's going to affect the value of your case.

The second thing is is, uh, only the doctors really know what your friend's knee injury really was. There are many different types of knee injuries: some are knee sprains, some are meniscus tears, some result in surgery, some result in more serious surgeries.

Uh, so my answer is, uh, just because your friend got a certain number, you may get more, you may get less. Every case is different.
