The National Safety Council is observing National Safety Month in June, when it plans to highlight the need for safe behaviors to eliminate preventable injuries and death. The National Safety Council says accidental injuries and deaths in the United States remain at unacceptable levels.
The Safety Month theme is “Safety Starts with Me.” The organization says:
“Successful organizations engage everyone in safety and create a culture where people feel a personal responsibility not only for their own safety, but for that of their coworkers, family and friends. While leadership from the top is important, creating a culture where there is a sense of ownership of safety by all makes everyone in the organization a safety leader.”
The observance will focus on employee wellness, ergonomics, preventing slips, trips and falls and emergency preparedness, along with driving safely and summer safety.
Founded in 1913 and chartered by Congress, the National Safety Council is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to save lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the road through leadership, research, education and advocacy.
